The "scandal" was a nothing-burger and the artists he pose-copied (NOT traced) didn't even care. Filing copyright claims and getting paid is super cheap and easy to do in Japan, but nobody filed anything against him.
Pose-copying is super common in the comics and manga industry although people are encouraged to not blatantly copy details of poses that they like and want to use. They should add their own flairs. The person who tried to call him out on Twitter with screenshot comparisons was likely just some ultranationalist crybaby who didn't like that a Brazilian had a breakout hit surpassing works from native Japanese people (I don't have anything against nationalists, but I hate whiny bitches).
To be specific, the lack of a season 2 has nothing to do with any scandal, and the original manga being cancelled was for economic reasons (there are a couple one-offs, and an Eastern Arc "sequel" started in 2021), and the LN remaining unfinished so many years later is entirely due to the authors own laziness, although Volume 13 finally released in April after years of delays.
The committee system for anime production is a bitch to deal with and the situation is likely that nobody believes they can live up to the quality of the first season, and also the age of the franchise and declining popularity make it less attractive for such a huge production resource commitment.
